DEPARTMENTS:

ICED has three levels organisational structure. The top level is the Board of Directors or the Executive Council
which is supported by the following four main departments: Action Research and Education; Capacity Building
and Training; Projects and Extension Services and ICT department. These four department are supported by
three smaller units comprising the Eco-tourism, Micro-finance and Information and Marketing services.

  • 8.1 Action Research and Education Department’s Activities:

ICED deploys action research methods to investigate sustainable development challenges in local communities
in order to determine their depth and breadth. This allows a systematic and realistic data collection to be
conducted and analysed to establish how best the challenges can be fixed to benefit the community members.

 

  • 8.2 Projects Management Department:

ICED relies on networking and building partnerships to conceptualise and implement her projects and
activities. Its major clients include the Government of Ghana through her Metropolitan/Municipal/District
Assemblies (MMDAs) and Ministries such as Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Education,
(MoE) Food and Agriculture (MoFA), etc. ICED also implements projects on behalf of governments of and
international organisations such as the European Commission, the United Nations and the World Bank and on
behalf of private enterprises. ICED has established strong partnerships with both local and foreign
organisations. Local partners of ICED include Government Ministries, MMDAs, Universities, SNV-Ghana,
Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ghana, Akwaaba Limited, University of Ghana Business School
(UGBS), Friends of the Earth Ghana (FoE-Gh), Action for Sustainable Development (ASUDEV), Women
Integrated Development Organisation (WIDO), etc.

 

  • 8.3 Capacity Building and Training Activities:

Human capital represents the human factor in the organisation; the combined intelligence, skills and expertise
that gives the organisation its distinctive character. Efficient utilisation of human resources is one of the most
important factors that will enable organisations to achieve their strategic goals. Building the capacity of
sustainable development stakeholders has been a major activity of ICED. Since its inception in the early 1990s,
it has actively been involved in the organisation of short-intensive training programmes geared towards
building adequate capacity for delivering sustainable development and good governance. ICED’s capacity
building and training activities particularly focuses on gender equality and empowerment as key cross-cutting
issues to all aspects of its programmes, projects and activities.

 

  • 8.4 Consultancy and Extension Services Department’s Activities:

ICED provides business advisory services to a number of individual small and medium scale enterprises as well
as smallholder farmers in the formulation of business polices and strategies, development of business plans,
and linking up businesses through the establishment of networks and partnerships.

Mission & Vision

The vision of ICED is to be an active contributor to the sustainable development of Ghana and SSA. To realise its vision, ICED is committed to contribute to improve food security and the livelihoods of the population of Ghana and SSA by engaging in applied action research, relevant capacity building programmes and delivery of extension and advisory services to individuals and development stakeholders in the sub-region.

Core Activities

CED’s core activities revolve around fundamental research, action research, provision of extension services, design and implementation of development projects, organisation of capacity building programmes and engagement in advocacy on sustainable development issues.
