Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment

ICED considers gender equality and empowerment as key cross-cutting issues to all aspects of its
programmes, projects and activities. Since the establishment of ICED in 1993, gender equality and
women and girls’ empowerment have been key aspects of all its programmes, projects and activities.
These include promoting and enforcing non-discriminatory laws, enabling women’s full and equal
participation in the workplace, ensuring equal access to decision making, good governance and
improving access to opportunities for socio-economic advancement. ICED adheres to the following
six main principles of good governance: a) participatory and inclusive approaches, b) accountability
and integrity, c) transparency, d) responsiveness, e) effectiveness and efficiency, and f) compliance
with existing local, national and international laws.
